Navigating Anxiety: Recognizing Symptoms and Crafting Solutions

Course Description

In this course, participants will delve into the essential components underlying student anxiety. They will gain insights into recognizing anxiety's indicators and manifestations across different ages, developmental stages, and cultural backgrounds. The course will highlight anxiety alleviation methods and models based on the work of Edmund J. Bourne, Ph.D., and other various researchers.  Participants will investigate research on anxiety triggers and understand its effect on students' educational experiences and classroom dynamics. Through various interactive channels, participants will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful reflection and receive constructive feedback from their instructor to reflect upon. 

Global Goals of the Course

To deepen and/or apply the content and skills of the teacher’s existing professional knowledge base by meeting the following global goals of the course:

  1. To examine current research in the area of best practices in anxiety awareness for a variety of anxiety disorders and their applicable reduction strategies.
  2. To develop an understanding of the need for effective methodologies to reduce anxiety and strategies to engage all learners in today’s classroom, both in-person and virtual classrooms.
  3. To analyze current anxiety reducing classroom instructional practices in order to create engaged practices to better support student learning.
  4. To explore applications of anxiety-reducing frameworks for students with special needs, various grade levels, maturities, and cultures.
  5. To explore research-proven frameworks and lesson planning that reduce stressors that cause anxiety.
  6. To collaborate and lead other educational professionals, as well as parents, to improve student learning through the use of best practices in anxiety awareness and reduction methodologies.
