Course Description

This course is designed to give educators an overview of the impact attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has on the performance of students in the classroom. Research-based instructional approaches and behavior management strategies will be explored, along with methods to enhance executive function skills. The implementation of appropriate accommodations, modifications, and interventions will also be highlighted. This course engages participants with meaningful, applicable, and practical activities with a focus on success for students with ADHD.

Global Goals of the Course

The following global goals of the course exist to deepen and/or apply the content and skills of teachers’ existing professional knowledge:

  1. Evaluate course-related research, literature, content, and strategies and formulate connections and applications to professional practice.
  2. Design an effective learning environment that incorporates essential best practices for the inclusive classroom.
  3. Develop standards-based lessons and assessments that are universally designed to meet the needs of all learners in the inclusive classroom.
  4. Examine research-based treatments and interventions for ADHD to maximize student potential.
  5. Collaborate with fellow educators, families, and other stakeholders to address the learning and behavioral needs of students with ADHD.
